We design all sites with both the ultimate viewer, and the
desires of our clients in mind. We make each site unique and easy to navigate.
Our design work is straight forward, clean and reasonably simple in form. We use
colors, textures and graphics to set the mood or style of the site and make the
various site elements work together to produce the desired effect. We do use
"Java" or "JavaScript" (the scrolling text to the left is
Java) and animated elements when they will add to the overall
design. If the site content is mainly text, then it is the responsibility of the
site owner to provide that text in a form that can be 'cut & pasted' into the
site body. Such form would be PC computer files containing Plain Text Documents,
Rich Text Format, or other, acceptable formatted, type of text files. (check out our client sites, shipsandcruises
and travel-scope for examples of the type of site we are referring to as "mainly
text")
Since page loading speed is one of the critical element in search engine
placement today, we try to limit or work around anything that slows down that
feature for the opening page. Search engines are also look at 'content' to help rank sites, we
feel up front information on the home page is very important. Links are another
important factor search engines and directories use to determine popularity of a
site.
The question of search engine placement and design
considerations comes up quite frequently. In an article in "Business 2.0", David
F. Gallagher, a writer in New York who has researched the subject had this to
say. "...Google likes clean, straightforward HTML content. In practical terms
that means lots of text, sprinkled with plenty of relevant keywords and phrases.
It also means avoiding Flash animations or Java script features (which can't be
read by Google's automated archiving system). That's why Google-friendly sites
often look like throwbacks to 1996-era Web designs"
We design sites with this in mind.
We work hard to provide design service that will meet the needs
of our clients without the high cost usually associated with custom work. For
example: a very simple site,
very simple,
one page, one color, 2 or 3 graphics, text and an
e-mail link, could cost as little as to $29.95 to design. This type of page
would be mainly for contact information and to have a "Web Presence". It's not
very exciting but at least your on the net. OR
it could cost a whole lot more if you want an exciting site filled with all
sorts of interesting 'stuff'. It all depends on what you want and need.
Incidentally, a page on the Internet is considered to be no
more than 5 or 6 monitor screens long. That's about as far as a surfer will
scroll down. (This page is 2 and 1/2 screens long in a 17" monitor)
What adds to the cost of a site? Lots of graphics, clip art or
photos add to the design cost. Big blocks of text and numerous pages all add to
the cost. Having to use Frames or Tables to hold text and graphics together also
adds to the cost. Cross platform design, PC's and Mac's can increase cost. Want
lots and lots of Links or Banners, it costs more. The more you want the more it
costs. Pop-up windows, drop-down menus, Bulletin boards, chat rooms, these all
add to the cost of a website.
